'I have Nixon's half-eaten sandwich'

That's Steve Jenne's bizarre claim to fame, which landed him a spot on the game show I've Got a Secret, according to The State Journal-Register. His story of traveling with the sandwich makes airport jaunts with accordions sound almost simple (not to mention the special challenges posed by Illinois tornadoes).

Jenne got his star turn after his deli relic appeared in Weird Illinois, which sounds like an interesting read. Wonder if Suzanne's birthplace is listed?

Dang! Back in 1976, when I first moved to SF, I was sitting at the Cliff House nursing a beer and watching Joan Baez nibble on a shrimp salad. She got up and left fully half of it and I snagged it before she got out the door. If only I hadn't wolfed it down! I could be traveling around the folk circuit and charging a $1 for a look.

I have a paper napkin autographed by former Attorney General John Ashcroft. He gave it to me and my friends after we gave him the finger -- a giant, foam #1 finger purchased from a Camden Yards souvenir vendor.

You think I'm kidding, but go ahead and ask him about it sometime.
