This CD is so much darn fun! Imagine, if you will, a stage-full of crazed accordionists, all
convinced that they can rock with the best of them. It's one thing to come to a Zydeco show
expecting to hear the squeeze-box on some rockin numbers. It's something different altogether to hear
a band
made up of six accordions, bass and drums. Most of
the songs are written by the group, and the titles immediately show
where this band's head is: "Hippie with a Banjo," First Bratwurst of Summer,"
"Kick my Butt" and "I Think About Stuff." They even jump into an off-the-wall version of War's
"Low Rider." The music also runs from Cajun and Mexican two-steps to European
tangos to German Oktoberfest-all while the band is having fun. For the musically

"Dovrebbe uscire per Notale il nuovo singolo di Dick Contino. Squeezin' On Sunset sintetizza negli armoniosi strepiti del proverbiale Steinway do stomaco gli oma ggi a due ispiratori dell'importante accordionista siculo-algelino: Gorni Kramer e Clifton Chenier, il re dello zydeco. Dal primo trasuda il messaggio, nobile e decadente, di un certo lounge jazz europeo dopolavoristico, dal secondo una disinibita enfasi etno che affascinerà i più hip tra i dj alternarock della North Bay bissando il successo di Mambo Triste, incluso nel CD uscito nel 1996 per la Globe Records di Mill Valley. Interrogato a proposito della reciproca stima che lo lega a James Ellroy, I'Omero di Los Angeles, il veterano Dick (che do tempo ha lasciato la dorata Calidornia per Vegas, motivando il fatto con 'cercavo un posto vicino alla villa di Tom Jones, dove nessuno si stupisse nel vedermi rientrare a casa ogni mattina alle sei') conferma di essere stato lui la chiave della ricostruzione notturna della Città degli Angeli, ubiquo sfondo per l'opus del prolifico narratore."
