Glass of Beer Polka
(original lyrics, © 2005 P. Rogers)

The little dollhouse came in lots of little pieces
I got out all my tools and went to work
Helping out my sister and my nieces
I'm a handyman with just one little quirk
Before I set to building any houses
I need to get my 2 feet on the ground
So just before my hammer starts to swinging
I pour a glass of beer and drink it down

A glass of beer
Is what I'm drinkin' here
A frosty, foamy glass of cheer
And when you hear
My sister say, "Oh dear"
I've poured another glass of beer

Now I can build a palace or a shack
I can hang a door that's true and plumb
I can drive a nail with just one whack
And never, ever hit my thumb
But all those tiny little pieces
We're scattered out there on the floor
The plans were written out in Chinese
So it was time to drink one more

Glass of beer
Is what I'm drinkin' here
A frosty, foamy glass of cheer
And when you hear
My sister say, "Oh dear"
I've poured another glass of beer

I finally got the thing together
Though it's not exactly to the plan
The chimney's sitting on the front porch
And the fireplace is in the can
But my sister's looking happy
And the kids have started in to play
As for me, I kind of like it
In a neo-postmodern kind of way

So a glass of beer
Is what we're drinkin' here
A frosty, foamy glass of cheer
And when you hear
"Why, thank you brother dear"
It's time to have another glass of beer
